Much like my voyage to Hermit Peak, landscape photography is a lot about following the route beyond your original destination, a process of patience, discovery, and revelation. Driving long stretches of streets and highways, ending up on winding mountain roads somewhere for the first time, soaking in the spiritual wonder of nature in all of its forms. This was such day and detour, discovering this narrowing dirt road curving up to witness the epic mountain views at golden hour. A little more than a year after the fire, we witness a spectacular late afternoon view of Hermit Peak (where famed lay monk Giovanni Maria de Agostini once lived in a cave), and see the resilience of the surrounding forest regenerating itself, offering majestic hues of amber, gold, and green. In contrast, the clouds sweeping across the bright blue sky create a dramatic counterpoint to the natural world below.
