It’s always nice to get hired to shoot local bands, especially when it’s a sold out show at the famous Belly Up with an epic rock band like Lucy’s Fur Coat. Needless to say, when lead guitarist Tony Sanfilippo contacted me to see if I was available to cover their show it was an emphatic YES. My mission was to capture their hard rocking, melodic grunge set with an emphasis on the crowd’s perspective, and the outcome was pure joy. As far as technique and aesthetic, It isn’t often you get to use a proper fill flash at a professional concert. Thankfully I was ok’d to use a single radio remote flash with a Cobra diffuser to create a soft fill that blended nicely with the ample stage lighting of this expansive venue. What a night!
