One of the most majestic and spiritual places in southern California, Joshua Tree National Park encompasses not one, but two diverse desert ecosystems, the Mojave and the Colorado. While home to over 1100 plant and animal species, including Desert Bighorn Sheep, Blacktailed Jackrabbit, California Mountain Lion, Mearns Coyotes, and even the occasional visiting Black Bear, the most ubiquitous resident of all God’s creations has to be the park’s namesake, the Joshua Tree itself. When I’m out in the country exploring landscapes with my camera, I often reflect that I am truly in my Church, and this vast and breathtaking natural kingdom, punctuated by these ancient, iconic desert agave trees is one of the most perfect examples of this. What a way to end a day of exploration, soaking in the golden hour’s outstretched sunbeams, surrounded by glorious Joshua Tree in the high desert… Amen.
